MAGNOLIA Mixed Media on Handmade Paper. 32 x 43”. FRAMED.
INSPIRED BY THE BOOK “RETURN OF THE BIRD TRIBE BY KEN CAREY “ AND HARKENING BACK TO MY NATIVE AMERICAN ANCESTRY, I INTRODUCE A NEW COLLECTION OF FIGURATIVE WORKS, INCLUDING IMAGES OF BIRDS AND FLORALS. THIS SERIES REPRESENTS BIRDS AS ARCHETYPAL SYMBOLS FOR THE SPIRIT AND AS MESSENGERS, REFLECTING A HIGHER DIMENSIONAL ASPECT OF BEING.
THE FACES OF THIS SERIES ARE INSPIRED AND REMINISCENT OF MY ISLAND PEOPLE CIRCA 199O’S.
EACH FIGURE IS ONE OF A KIND ORIGINAL ARTWORK. BIRD AND FLOWER IMAGES CONSIST OF HAND-CARVED WOODBLOCK PRINTS, SILKSCREENS, ETCHINGS, AND CUSTOM-DESIGNED HANDPRINTED PAPERS, WAX, AND PIGMENTS. I HAVE INCLUDED WORKS ON PAPER CREATED WITH A CUMULATION OF TECHNIQUES OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS. THESE MAY INCLUDE BATIK, SERIGRAPHS, BLOCK-PRINTING, COLLAGE, AND ENCAUSTIC.
